I do not want any of you to think this is EVER necessary, however a recent
(2011) event of a dog custody case reminded me that this is also a subject
we need to at least know about. The following are California based.
Interviewing lawyers in your area and watching the newspapers for
dog-related cases and the winning lawyer should help you find a lawyer

but AKC is continuing to update, upgrade and simplify.
IWCA ...(Irish
Wolfhound Club of America) the National Club for the breed. The "Mother" of all
the local and regional clubs. You can find a club in your area through them.
IWAWC ...(Irish Wolfhound
Association of the West Coast) actually only covers Southern California. They
sponsor 2 fun days and 1 Specialty a year.
SCIWFC...(South

It seems to be non-partisan, but the Free Shipping is for only specified
products. Check it out for answers to some of your food and feeding
questions. Please! Do Not Be Enticed into the "designer
foods"...they really aren't better simply because they cost more.
Read the survey results and make your own informed decision.
Paws and Claws Pet Transporters. A ground transport shipping company
offering dog and cat shipping. They are based in Alabama but offer
nationwide door-to-door service. You might want to check them out along
with other ground transporters to make your final decision.

liked this "homey" site! Unpretentious and enjoyable.
Well-built handcrafted items, BUT currently they are on hiatus (2/2011). Some of you may find a few items to
be pricey, but I'd bet the workmanship and Customer Service
policy will make you the winner. Limited catalog, but good! Also, custom
Memorial Urns when the need arises. Perhaps they would refer you to take a
special order? All you have to do is ask.
House Signs
... The custom signs are constructed on rust-resistant baked
enamel aluminum, high quality magnetic sheeting, and weather
treated pine. Also offering Weathervanes, mailbox toppers,
stoneware pet dishes, pet memorials, and self-applied stickers.
Custom Flags
... Custom designed dog flags are made by double appliqué using a
200 denier nylon. These top quality flags are available in
different background colors. Let people know what dog is in Your
household! These must be ordered by calling an 800#--no biggie
but does take a bit more time.

Buy PetSafe Wireless Dog Fence, Dog Doors, Dog
Crates, PetSafe Electric Dog Fences, Pet Containment Fencing, and Discount Pet
Supplies. I have no personal relationship or experience with this outfit,
but what I have read, looks good. Use at your own discretion.
West
Coast Pet Supply. They offer a wide selection of name brand pet
products. They also have a Breeder Referral Directory which could be
useful. SUNSTAG (Reg.) is listed, but "boo-hoo" not one
response... Someone could say something nice about us, huh?

Doors. PetSafe Pet Doors for Dogs & Cats. PetSafe & Staywell Pet Doors and
Replacement Flaps. You may want to check out these guys. I think it could
be useful. On the other hand, you might find something local to you, but
this is a good reference.
Doggie Meds
at Discount. I have
not used their service, mainly because I have a local outlet for my needs.
However, some of you may not be so fortunate. Give these guys a try and
let me know how they worked for/with you and your recommendation to retain
them in our Links.
Dog Food Resource Website. Sometimes we encounter a
dilemma over which dog
food is best for our hounds. All the reviews contain lists of ingredients
and analysis of the food content. This site gives comprehensive reviews of many
currently on-the-market pet foods. Use your best judgment on what will work for
you and your dog.
 Really Good Hound Leashes.
I was recently introduced to this company and thought
perhaps some of you would want "quality" wear for your "quality" hound!! I
recommend leather only, but some of the nylon ones have padded hand grips
and might work well for walking the hound. REMEMBER! Never loop the leash
around your wrist! Always loop it over your thurmb and grip with the full
hand--much easier to drop if the hound lunges away after a cat or
something<G>. Personally, I use a very long leash and wrap it behind me to
hold it in my right hand, that way I have my body as an anchor if my hound
tries to chase a prey... Enjoy!

Lots of vitamin/nutrient information within
the catalog pages! Great to have on hand for little things. Also
has grooming products, disinfectants, and equipments. Reasonable

This site offers general articles-- updated

Allergy Aids-1.
A couple of good sites. First one gives some insights into why and
how.
Allergy Aids-2.
Check out these folks and if you have an allergic dog that your vet wants you
to take to a dermatologist or other specialist, suggest this blood test first.
It seems right as a first step and relatively reasonable. It is around $300.
Next step, after finding the food allergy, was the right food (in this case). I
have learned that other allergies are helped by a food change even if the
allergy itself is not food related, afterall nutrients in different combinations
create different absorptions etc.

BOOK! Title: The Irish Wolfhound, Symbol of Celtic Splendor by
Mary McBryde ...takes
you to Amazon.com where you need to enter the author's name or
book title. This is a relatively definitive,
authoritative document! It is a "must have" for novice
owners and breeders alike. We do not advocate, however, that it
be taken as gospel. Some minor philosophies could differ with the SUNSTAG(Reg) viewpoint. This link takes you to Amazon Books and
their on-line ordering service where the book is currently listed! It is apparently out of print already,
therefore PRICEY! Watch eBay for "used" copies. PS--Don't take
everything you read as "gospel"...

general, but good reading. Some would make nice bedtime reading
for the kids--the 2-legged ones!

OH DARN! Currently inactive [SINCE 4/2009] due to upheaval South of the Border. What Was: This Club organizes dog shows in Tijuana Mexico for more information visit their
website. It is glorious fun. Four days of International and Mexican shows for championship points on the grounds of the
Tijuana Greyhound Racetrack; lots of security and covered arenas for breed and group judging; and, bleachers overlooking the exhibition for easy viewing.
Evening Equestrian entertainment, ringside cafe and bar, restaurants within walking distance, greyhound races, and terrific camaraderie! Come! Join the
fun--even if you don't have a dog!

Internet Dog Directory: a general Index of worldwide clubs, kennels
and breeders of our great breed. See some of the kennel websites for a good
overview of what is representative of the Irish Wolfhound through the world. Very general and a bit commercial.
Also, includes a short book list.
IRISH
WOLFHOUND WEB-JAPAN. I had a lovely discussion about the current
(2005) trend to FAT Irish Wolfhounds instead of the athletic, long-lived ones.

subscription. Good overall IW coverage and book catalog. I do
take issue with the caption under their opening photo: It says
the dogs are of the "old type". There is only ONE type,
and these hounds are representative under both the
"old" and "current" standard. Good basic magazine
on the whole. Pretty much formulaic.

Take Your Pet...
nice, clear pages for your edification. Easy to browse. They also
offer a free E-Zine with membership. Another that wants you to
become a "member".
Pets on the Move:
Travel in Europe/Pet Passports, a UK-based service. While
I have not yet used this site, it appears to be very up-to-date on the how of
Traveling in Europe with your pet. It includes information on import/export of a
pet from or into the Continent. I'll check them out more thoroughly soon.

the "fear of flying" crowd, the breeder who needs to

Hummmm. Intriguing. Is it really possible to NOT have to go to Dog Training
Classes? Can I really pick up a book (or two or three) and get my dog to
be "Lassie" or "Rin-Tin-Tin"?...probably not, but maybe, just maybe this
book set could help you live with a more social and personable pet. I have
not personally reviewed any of the documentation, and as adults, you
should make your own decisions. The bottom line cost seems to currently be
$39.95--which takes FOREVER to get to, by the way. Take the time to listen
to the INFO-mercial; you decide if it is worth more than going out to
Training Classes, and if you buy, let me have YOUR feedback--I'll include
it here.

Names
Fido? or Phydo?
...A couple thousand ideas and alpha listing
plus links to other sites. (Maybe they're interesting, I don't
know for sure as I didn't have time to check--wanna do it for
me?--some are really great; others, well, hummmmm
certainly not suited for an Irish Wolfhound!). Let me add that many breeders
have a special way of naming their puppies. One is to identify which
litter it came from...like using the letter of the alphabet corresponding
to the year. Another is by theme; for example, Academy Award
winners...aren't all our dogs "winners"<G>? So while on
paper, the dog's name may not be of your choosing, what you call him/her
is totally YOURS. Think of it as a nickname... Robert can be
"Bob"; Claire might be "CeCe"..As long as the dog has
a name that YOU give him/her and it sends Love with it every time you use
it--that's all that matters!.
